Commis Chef

Position Overview
The Commis Chef is an entry-to-mid-level kitchen professional responsible for assisting in food preparation, cooking, and daily kitchen operations under the supervision of senior chefs. The role supports production of food items to meet recipe standards, maintains kitchen cleanliness and hygiene, and ensures safe food handling in accordance with UAE/GCC culinary and hospitality standards.

Key Responsibilities
Food Preparation & Production
Prepare ingredients (washing, peeling, chopping), and assist with mise-en-place for service.
Cook and finish dishes according to standardized recipes, portion control, and presentation standards.
Assist the Chef de Partie and Sous Chef in daily kitchen operations across assigned stations (hot, cold, pastry, etc.).
Monitor food quality, temperature, and portion control throughout service.
Kitchen Hygiene & Safety
Uphold high standards of food safety, hygiene, and sanitation (HACCP compliance) at all times.
Maintain cleanliness of kitchen equipment, work stations, and utensils during and after service.
Follow safe handling procedures for kitchen equipment and report unsafe conditions or hazards promptly.
Teamwork & Operational Support
Work collaboratively with other kitchen staff to ensure timely service, especially during peak periods.
Attend kitchen briefings, training sessions, and team meetings as directed.
Support inventory checks, stock rotation, and reporting shortages to supervisors.
Perform any additional tasks as assigned by the Chef de Partie, Sous Chef, or kitchen management.
Qualifications & Requirements
Education
High school diploma or equivalent required; Culinary diploma or certificate preferred.
Experience
1–3 years of experience in a kitchen environment — hotel, restaurant, or catering is preferred.
Hospitality or hotel kitchen experience is a strong advantage.
Skills & Abilities
Basic understanding of cooking methods, food preparation techniques, and kitchen operations.
Knowledge of food safety and HACCP standards.
Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced, multicultural team environment.
Strong attention to detail, punctuality, and reliability.
Good communication skills; English fluency is preferred, additional languages a plus.
Work Conditions
Must be flexible to work shifts, including weekends, evenings, and public holidays, based on hospitality demands.
Physically able to stand for extended periods and perform kitchen tasks safely.
